Monotonix Mohawk Austin TX-I would say these guys have great stage presence but that would be a total lie since they rarely touch the stage. Drummer Haggai Fershtman sets up his kit in the middle of the Mohawk audience and you don’t see Ami Shelly (vocals) or Yonatan Gat (Guitar/Keys) until the first few beats of the drums. At this point Ami and Yonatan go interactive with the crowd as well, surfing and climbing on anything high enough that would potentially break a neck.
The crowd gets into the action again as a seat is held up for Ami to sit on while he plays a snare drum that the audience is also holding up. Yonotan climbs to the balcony and plays a guitar solo from the rafters meanwhile Ami stage dives off of the merch tent.
This is with out a doubt one of the most entertaining shows to go to, however the Monotonix announced during their set that this would be there last in Austin. Ami also went on to say they would be playing in Denton and eight other U.S. dates before they head back to Europe to end their tour for good.
Ami said, they have been touring for six years straight and we feel this is the right time to quit. I guess we’ll be remembering the Monotonix from shaky youtube videos and SXSW folkore. So long Monotonix no one knows how to throw a party like you.
Oh, by the way if you’re into the punk scene I would recommend their 2009 release “Where WERE YOU WHEN IT HAPPENED” and there latest work released in 2011 “NOT YET”.
